BLAIR DOGS TRAINS DOGS OF ALL BREEDS, SIZES, AGES AND BACKGROUNDS TO BE WELL BEHAVED AND WELL SOCIALISED

Balanced Approach:
Blair Dogs uses
a balanced approach that combines positive reinforcement (reward and praise), with fair corrections to clearly communicate right from wrong. I will teach your dog these clear boundaries, simple rules and predictable outcomes so it is instinctual.

Leadership:
Establishing clear leadership is the bedrock to addressing behavioural problems whether that is obedience, "deaf" to recall, anxiety, fear, hyperactivity or aggression. Teaching the dog to focus on the handler calms their nervous system, gives confidence and stops them from taking control of a situation. I will teach you how to be the trusted leader so your dog is not making unwanted choices and looks to you for guidance, direction and stability.

Real World Environments:

Blair Dogs only trains in the real world environment (such as open fields, forests, parks, towns) conditioning the dog to focus on the handler. Once the focus is taught I believe in exposing the dog to their triggers (like people, dogs, prey) in order to desensitise whilst maintaining strict control over the situation.

Socialisation

I use my Stooge Dog, Annie, who I have trained to do this job. Using a Stooge Dog
enables your dog safe socialisation, helps them to overcome fear, arousal or aggression and models recall.

Generous With Praise & Quick To Forgive
The golden rule of Blair Dogs.
I will teach your dog the "Yes!" marker as a deeply effective, energy based communication reward my preferred method of reward.

METHODOLOGY

DOG TRAINING SERVICES

      RECALL:
Lack of recall is one of the most common problems dog owners have.  I train in real life environments, out and about in open terrain exposing the dogs to stimuli in which recall is required such as game birds, deer, other dogs, and people. I welcome dogs where all other training methods have failed. Recall is my speciality.

REACTIVITY & AGGRESSION:  The reason for a dog to be aggressive can be multiple - breeding, lack of socialisation, early life, owner error, lack of training (or the wrong training). I train fearful, anxious, reactive and aggressive dogs so that they become calm and neutral. I use my own dog, Annie, as a helper dog to allow for safe, gradual socialisation to build positive associations without direct intense interactions.

ON & OFF LEASH OBEDIENCE:  I will train your dog to walk to heel. No pulling, zero tension. I will teach your dog to sit, stay and "switch off". These fundamental skills are also the first stage of reactivity training..

PUPPY TRAINING: It sounds obvious but training your puppy is essential to having a well behaved adult dog. Unfortunately it is also the stage where people accidentally reinforce bad behaviours through the wrong training. Blair Dogs. Puppy Training covers Basic Obedience: sit, stay, wait. Inside: crate training, toilet training, night waking; biting, chewing, and Outside: recall, lead walking, socialisation, impulse control.
I also cover integration of a puppy to established household dogs and breed specific training.

BEHAVIOURAL ISSUES: Hyperactivity, resource guarding, jumping up, separation anxiety, barking, pacing, whining, destruction are common behaviours that owners struggle with. Using a common sense approach I am able to teach your dog to be confident, calm and well- behaved.

I'm Blair, the founder and owner of Blair Dogs I believe a well trained, well behaved dog is about patience, consistency and leadership.

One of the very special things about Blair Dogs is that I use a Stooge Dog or helper dog. My Stooge Dog is an English Pointer, Annie, who I have trained to do this job. I use her to model recall training, enable safe socialisation and overcome fear, arousal or aggression. Having the benefit of a Stooge Dog enables progression much quicker and more effective results.

Blair is a 5-star choice. I strongly recommend her to anyone in the area.

Owner of a Cocker Spaniel & Cockador

Blair Dogs has been invaluable training my very energetic Labrador to recall. Within just 6 sessions she was recalling perfectly even in mid chase of a rabbit. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone struggling with recall.

Owner of 4 year old Labrador

We used Blair to desensitise my dog to walking in town and being able to calmly sit still at cafes. 100% recommend.

Owner of Crossbreed

Before we found Blair our very energetic cockapoo had to be kept on lead at all times and would charge off after anything that moved. After a few months Blair had him going off lead and coming back perfectly. A day I never thought would happen.

Owner of a 3 year old Cockapoo

Blair was recommended to us through a friend who had also trained with her. My dog was reactive to all dogs and I was having to walk her very early or very late at night to avoid other walkers. Blair's helper dog Annie really helped to desensitise her and reduce her anxiety about other dogs. She now walks past other dogs without lunging or barking and she comes back even when another dog is running up to us. I can take her everywhere without worrying who we will meet.

Owner of Crossbreed

Blair trained our Rhodesian Ridgeback boy and Boxer before relocating back to the UK. She clearly has a natural affinity with dogs and her understanding of training is second to none. We all miss her greatly!

Owner of Rhodesian Ridgeback & Boxers

100% recommend her to anyone looking for recall training. Annie really made a huge difference in how quickly she got what was being asked of her.

Owner of Lurcher

We used Blair for our puppy. After the first session when she was 8 weeks she was coming back when we called her and after the second week she could sit and stay!
